About Steroid Injections
Epidural steroid injections (ESI) are one of the most common treatments for acute to chronic pain. It is a type of anti-inflammatory medication that is a great alternative to more advanced treatments or surgery. Ideal candidates are individuals who are suffering from chronic dull pain or extreme discomfort due to a physical injury, slipped disc, or other health concerns, like arthritis. Our seasoned team of interventional pain management physicians are highly trained and experienced in administering epidurals to accurately treat precise areas of discomfort. At Tricity Pain Associates in New Braunfels and Seguin, TX, we have helped countless men and women who are suffering from persistent pain that cannot be eased with over-the-counter medication and other conservative therapies.
"Dr V is both a doctor and a friend. He treats his patients with empathy and consideration. You will never feel rushed in his care and he provides wholistic options for pain management. He shows incredible patience in a field where chronic pain leads to frustration and it is often difficult for the patient to verbalize their issues. Highly recommend Dr. V!"- J.A. / Google / Mar 23, 2021

"I cannot begin to explain how much Dr. V as helped me over the last year. I came to him at the recommendation of my rheumatologist due to an undiagnosed pain in my lower back. The pain was so intense I was unable to find any comfortable position much less sleep. From my first visit, I realized Dr. V was different. He spent time with me, listened to me, and was genuinely concerned about the ulceration (later diagnosed as lupus panniculitis) on my lower back and the immense pain it was causing. He was able to provide me with immediate relief. After my surgery, his office worked to get me in as soon as possible to adjust my medication. When Dr. V saw me hunched over, barely able to move, and walking with a walker, he told me he would take care of me, and he did. He adjusted my medication, and I was able to return to work when the surgeon released me. Besides his medical knowledge, Dr. V always made me feel that he cared about me as a person not just a patient. I would recommend Dr. V to anyone who is living with pain and wants their life back."- M.H. / Google / Dec 26, 2020

There are several different types of steroids, but generally, all of them consist of an anti-inflammatory medication and a numbing agent, like lidocaine or bupivacaine. During your initial consultation, we will review your condition and determine which type of steroid may provide the most pain relief. From there, we usually administer the ESI at the same time as your consultation with the help of a live x-ray machine called a fluoroscope. This provides our team with a live view of your body structures so we can place the steroid accurately. The procedure generally takes about 10 – 15 minutes to complete, and once it's done, you will be free to resume your daily activities. Most patients experience a noticeable improvement in their symptoms almost immediately.
